a salute to perkins

i love perkins. i have loved it since i first tried it about 5 years ago. so yesterday afternoon, all the restaurants closed down due to all this "blizzard conditions" garbage. so what did perkins do? they sent boxes & boxes of goodies to the surrounding hotels. veggies, soup, muffins, pies... all good stuff. so needless to say, we ate breakfast at perkins this morning. how could we not, after they gave us free food last night? they had a limited menu available for breakfast, but they still had my ham & cheese omlette. and the peach muffins were fresh out of the oven. yum.

windy, windy snow

still stuck in kearney. we thought about leaving, then the wind gusted up again and we decided to stay. no sense getting out on the road when you can't see the road, right?

goodbye colorado, hello... nebraska?

left colorado after church & lunch. beautiful weather, a little windy and chilly. but it's the end of november... what do people expect?

the snow started not too far into nebraska. currently the area is in under a blizzard warning. i don't know about all that, but it sure was hard to see where the road was as we were driving. 5 hotels later and we have a room. weather channel says we'll be driving through snow and then a sloppy snow/rain mix and then rain tomorrow. hey, it's the end of november, right?

drinking thanksgiving dinner

do you use splenda? we've baked with it before - cookies, cakes, swirled into oatmeal - and we get along fine. but there's something strange that happens when it's used to sweeten a beverage. don't believe me? try the jones soda holiday pack. besides the fact that the sodas don't actually taste anything like foods they're supposed to imitate, they have a horrible splenda aftertaste. and who sweetens their brussel sprouts anyway?

you may be thinking "surely they can't be as bad as all that... who wouldn't love turkey & gravy soda?" but even the dog wouldn't drink it. not the brussel sprouts, not the turkey & gravy, not the wild herb stuffing, not the pumpkin pie, and not the cranberry sauce (which, compared to the others, was almost consumable). that's right, the dog will lick her own butt... but she wouldn't drink the jones soda.

buffalo bill's grave

we drove down to denver today. visited buffalo bill's grave. 40-some years ago, when my grandparents visited his grave, my grandmother said the drive up to Lookout Mountain was scary. we decided they must've driven up the way we drove out. quite beautiful, with plenty of hairpin turns.

visited two different apple stores. bought me a smashing new bag for my ibook. chocolate brown & spiced pumpkin orange. it's very me. it's also very much out in the car avoiding the dog hair that makes me stuffy.

ate dinner at cinzetti's. wow.

little white church

so there's this little white church on I-80, a few miles east of the york exit. and everytime i drive past it, i want to stop & take pictures. well, today was something like the 12th time i've been past it, and i still didn't stop to take pictures. but i did snap this one as we drove past. not bad for 75 mph, eh?

made it to colorado. yay!

these images brought to you by insomnia

do you remember turning the church bulletins into confetti? we had ziploc bags full of little multi-colored dots, just waiting for a good use. need to stuff a bathroom with balloons? you can't do that without getting some confetti in the ballons first.

or the yarn? whether it be two cars or an entire family room... maybe even a white work van... there's always something that can be held together by a skein of yarn. if no one's sleeping by the window, at least. or in the suburban...

snow!

if you know how much i love snow, you'd know i was pretty excited to see little white balls along my car windows when i left for work this morning. and you'd know that i was feeling like a kid in a candy shoppe walking through the snow at lunch.
